Wild Walley visits on the “45066” show

Mike Schneider, also known for 19 years as Wild Walley the morning host of the “Rebel” country music radio station and I met in his home studio last week for an interview for our local “45066” TV show. The “Rebel” was sold in February to the University of Northern Kentucky. All employees received ten days notice to get their stuff together for departure. Vacation pay for 2011 won’t happen and goodbye. That was it, no farewell party, no words of wisdom, no thank you for the last two decades, it was over. Mike started at the “Rebel” at age 31 and now at age 50 was out of work. A single father raising 4 teenage boys here in Springboro, he’s in the process of putting together his own business doing promotions, public relations, voice overs and narration for businesses in the Dayton/Cincinnati market. They didn’t call him Wild Walley for being quiet, bashful and sane. His studio has numerous rubber chickens hanging from the ceiling and many, many photos of Walley with rock stars and dressed to the sevens in all kinds of wacky situations that raised tens of thousands for worth while causes over the years. I first met Walley in 1992 when I and a neighbor, Ron, called ourselves Dr. Don and Dr. Ron the “Spin Doctors” doing night club shows with dance music, karaoke and comedy. A new product that came out in 92 was Comedy Karaoke. Wild Walley invited us on his morning show to do some schtick and we had an unbelievable time. In the picture above I asked Mike to smile for a great picture for the paper knowing that he would give his best 3 Stooges look-a-like pose while I tried to restrain myself from breaking up. Well, should Mike stand at an interstate off ramp using his voice to thrill media people exiting and perhaps end up on a You Tube video that might go viral causing Mr. Mike to become the new announcer for the “Price Is Right” or some professional football or basketball team? Stay tuned and don’t miss our interview on the May/June edition of 45066 that begins airing next week on Time Warner cable channel six in the Dayton south viewing area. Details follow at the end of this column.

Others on the show are the Springboro High School choir with their visit to Ireland and Scotland over Spring Break, our first state wrestling champion Cody Shivener, a visit with Tomek Ossoski, Administrator of Hillspring Transitional Care Center here in Springboro, a chat with Carlie Short, a SHS senior and country singer that will be appearing in Nashville this summer. Carlie will be singing at Cazadores in Franklin next week, one of her songs you’ll hear on the “45066” show is “73” a song she wrote about State Route 73, others on the show include Tom, Matt and Brad from Heatherwoode, Dave Thompson from the Coffman Family Y, and on the “Meet Your Neighbor” segment the mayor chats with local resident Earl Northern and his family. The May/June show was taped at the Jonathan Wright Homestead here in Springboro which was built in 1815 and is a bed and breakfast from Memorial Day weekend through October each year. A thirty minute special on the home, it’s history and the wonderful people that have come from all over the world to visit will be aired later this summer.
