Franklin and Otterbein Bell Ringers to Present a "Tribute to America"

FRANKLIN -- Patriotic music will fill the air as three bell choirs from Franklin First United Methodist Church and Otterbein Lebanon combine to offer a "Tribute to America" on May 16, 3 p.m. The bell fest will be at the church, 303 S. Main Street, "Under the Green Steeple."

Franklin First's Aspenlieter Bell Choir, under the direction of Monica Rhude, will play "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" and "God's Train." Otterbein's choirs, the Tintinnabulators Bell Choir and the Chapel Bell Ringers, will play "This Land is Your Land,"The Battle Hymn of the Republic," "The Clock Shop" and "Mallet Madness." Virginia Longmire directs the Otterbein choirs.

All three choirs will combine for "God Bless America," an "Armed Forces Medley," and "America The Beautiful." Nancy Osborne and Virginia Longmire will also provide piano and organ accompaniment. Trish Dicken will be the percussionist.

Veterans and current members of the military and their families are invited to attend the event and will be honored during the concert.

"Last year we did a joint concert with several other bell choirs. We had a huge crowd when we did it at Otterbein. We had so much fun that we decided to do it again and have the performance here this time," said Rhude. "Both our church and Otterbein Lebanon have strong music programs and many singers and musicians are involved with both programs. We love putting our groups together and sharing our gifts of music with the community."

There is no charge and the event is open to the public. A reception will follow in the church dining room. For more information, call the church at (937) 746-5232.  The church is handicapped accessible.
